Jonathan R. Beno

Jonathan has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Fine Art (B.A.F.A) from the University of New Mexico with an emphasis in art history and the studio arts.
He is an Indigenous artist who is strongly inspired by the natural world.

Jonathan has been drawing and painting since childhood. His passion for art and creativity led him to study art history where he developed a strong appreciation for surreal, abstract, and impressionist works. He identifies many of his works as fantasy expressionism and surreal mindscapes. These styles are tied into each of his works. The themes seen in his art are intentionally diverse as his work is inspired through these styles along with his love of nature, personal spirituality, inner thoughts, experiences, and dreams.

Several of my works are grouped into series, these particular collections are grouped together because I feel they share a similar theme, imagery, or stylistic approach.
The first ever created was the “Unbranded Series” a pun on the classic art names of “untitled”, this series of horses or abstract horse designs was the first of my grouping artworks into collections and series. I take the untitled naming approach and apply the western markings of branding animals that belong to a particular ranch or brand, my horse paintings and illustrations soon felt the need to belong but not having to give each individual work a title, each one became a sequential number in the “Unbranded Series.”
Another collection series that I have created is the “Beloved Messengers Series” in this collection I am paying homage to all family and friends who have left the living world. Their spirit lives on and their everlasting loving presence is felt and shown in little reminders they are with you whenever a symbolic messenger shows up and crosses your path.
